HTC-Flyer

HTC believes that many people are progressing beyond a single wireless device paradigm into an era where some will own multiple wireless devices that serve their different needs. We saw an opportunity to create a tablet experience that is different, more personal and productive, and are extremely excited to introduce the HTC Flyer in the Indian market.

A press release quotes Faisal Siddiqui, Country Manager, HTC India,

HTC has announced its first tablet in India, the HTC Flyer. HTC Flyer utilizes a re-designed HTC Sense UI and HTC Watch, a new connected video service that will debut on the Flyer, and will collaborate with OnLive to launch the first cloud-based mobile gaming service on a tablet. With Flyer at one’s hand HTC made an grand entry to the “tablet” war in India.

Flyer’s competitors in India include the Apple iPad, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, Blackberry Playbook and the soon—to—be launched Motorola Xoom and Huawei’s MediaPad.

The press release highlights the HTC Scribe technology on the Flyer that will let users write on the tablet screen and will also integrate itself with Timemark (an app that records audio while taking notes) and the cloud-based notes service, Evernote.

The HTC Flyer is also supposed to work with the cloud gaming service OnLive that lets you stream new games on to your PC and play them without needing powerful specs. Since OnLive for the PC requires at least a 3Mbps broadband connection, it's not yet clear how the Flyer will use the app.

The Flyer has a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 600x1024 pixels. It runs Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) and is powered by a 1.5GHz processor and has 1GB of RAM. The Flyer has 32GB of internal storage space and also supports micro SD cards up to 32GB. The Flyer supports Wi-Fi, 3G and GPS (HSDPA 14.4Mbps, HSUPA 5.76Mbps). It also has two cameras- a primary 5MP auto-focus one that can shoot 720p videos and a secondary 1.3MP one for video calls. The Flyer supports both Flash 10.1 and HTML5.image3

  • Weight:420 grams (14.82 ounces) with battery
  • Display:7 inch touch-sensitive screen
  • Screen:177.8 mm (7")
    1024 X 600 resolution

It's all in the details

  • 1.5 GHz processor for superfast browsing and seamless htc-flyer multitasking.
  • Latest Adobe Flash and HTML5 support for fluid video playback.
  • Wi-Fi printing for when you need a printed copy of emails, documents or photos.
  • Stereo speakers for a richer movie watching and music listening experience.
  • Front-facing camera for capturing fun self portrait stills or videos.

Since the launch of Apple’s iPad, the tablet market is witnessing huge competition, with new contenders launching their devices. Apple’s rival in the computing space, Dell had launched the “Streak” in India last year, while homegrown telecom handset makers like Spice and Olive have also launched similar devices at much lower price points. With such a neck competition the user comfort has just begun treading on a comfortable path. With Increasing options for consumers and price fight within the manufacturers the market penetration of the individual brand will be something interesting to note.
