The Launch of a FLYER

. Tuesday, June 28, 2011

HTC-Flyer

HTC believes that many people are progressing beyond a single wireless device paradigm into an era where some will own multiple wireless devices that serve their different needs. We saw an opportunity to create a tablet experience that is different, more personal and productive, and are extremely excited to introduce the HTC Flyer in the Indian market.

A press release quotes Faisal Siddiqui, Country Manager, HTC India,

HTC has announced its first tablet in India, the HTC Flyer. HTC Flyer utilizes a re-designed HTC Sense UI and HTC Watch, a new connected video service that will debut on the Flyer, and will collaborate with OnLive to launch the first cloud-based mobile gaming service on a tablet. With Flyer at one’s hand HTC made an grand entry to the “tablet” war in India.

Flyer’s competitors in India include the Apple iPad, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, Blackberry Playbook and the soon—to—be launched Motorola Xoom and Huawei’s MediaPad.

The press release highlights the HTC Scribe technology on the Flyer that will let users write on the tablet screen and will also integrate itself with Timemark (an app that records audio while taking notes) and the cloud-based notes service, Evernote.

The HTC Flyer is also supposed to work with the cloud gaming service OnLive that lets you stream new games on to your PC and play them without needing powerful specs. Since OnLive for the PC requires at least a 3Mbps broadband connection, it's not yet clear how the Flyer will use the app.

The Flyer has a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 600x1024 pixels. It runs Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) and is powered by a 1.5GHz processor and has 1GB of RAM. The Flyer has 32GB of internal storage space and also supports micro SD cards up to 32GB. The Flyer supports Wi-Fi, 3G and GPS (HSDPA 14.4Mbps, HSUPA 5.76Mbps). It also has two cameras- a primary 5MP auto-focus one that can shoot 720p videos and a secondary 1.3MP one for video calls. The Flyer supports both Flash 10.1 and HTML5.image3

At a glance

  • Size:195.4mm x 122mm x 13.2mm
    7.7" x 4.8" x 0.52"
  • Weight:420 grams (14.82 ounces) with battery
  • Display:7 inch touch-sensitive screen
  • Screen:177.8 mm (7")
    1024 X 600 resolution

It's all in the details

  • 1.5 GHz processor for superfast browsing and seamless htc-flyer multitasking.
  • Latest Adobe Flash and HTML5 support for fluid video playback.
  • Wi-Fi printing for when you need a printed copy of emails, documents or photos.
  • Stereo speakers for a richer movie watching and music listening experience.
  • Front-facing camera for capturing fun self portrait stills or videos.

Since the launch of Apple’s iPad, the tablet market is witnessing huge competition, with new contenders launching their devices. Apple’s rival in the computing space, Dell had launched the “Streak” in India last year, while homegrown telecom handset makers like Spice and Olive have also launched similar devices at much lower price points. With such a neck competition the user comfort has just begun treading on a comfortable path. With Increasing options for consumers and price fight within the manufacturers the market penetration of the individual brand will be something interesting to note.

In a Relationship

. Friday, June 24, 2011

Its has always been just a relationship status for him. And precisely the occurrence frequency of this relationship status on his facebook profile page has been more than often. As this status is changing once again for him, he had some new set of ideas which needed the gravity of his thought. He was befuddled, the subject was not the new girl but the change of social status that probably was not new for him any more. He was struggling with some set of questions, which were inviolable. They seemed irrelevant at times but then he was seeking for answers. The seek was desperate and quantitative in nature.

Its been 6 years he graduated, and 8 years since he was first in love or at least that is what he said it. Yes it was a love at first sight, but then similar cases of first sights followed year after another that made it no longer to be tagged “at first sight”. Every time he was in a relationship, the urge to get out of the shackles was more intense than the pre-existing desire to love. I asked him why does he say “pre-existing” and he replied because the existence ceased after a couple of months and the feeling of being in a relationship was insipid. But my concerns were different. Everytime he was out of the relationship the feel to love someone, to be with someone was just so aeonian.  I often tried subjugating myself with the thought of love or need of love just for the sake of it.

The room was dimly lit. The cigarette smoke seemed so rhetoric. The bean bag and nearby lying pack of cigarette made it perfect for him to shed away the urgency to drive any kind of locomotive thoughts that could require an effort for his bone and muscles to splay. He was smiling. The smile was different, not the regular one that had made a common appearance on his face before. It had an instinctive motive to speak a story. May be the first one. He had a picture in hand. The yellow turned paper made it quite evident that the picture was old. “Who is that ? ”, I asked. “That’s her”, he replied. “Her..  Who her ?? her has been very common with you.”, I tried inhibiting my quintessential boyish urge to know everything that could be possible, for this new girl that I was seeing in this picture. “She was my first” he replied back with the same smile. I don’t know but there was something with this smile. May be it was exclusive. Because these days exclusion has become relatively exclusive.

First..?? Do you mean the first girl you slept with or the first girl you fell in love with or the first girl you presumably fell in love with. what is the exact dimension for this first ?” He burst into laugh. Probably the beer and cigarette had started working. I tell you its a tough combination to deal with. Since I am not a smoker, I had never experienced it personally but the reliable sources said to me, it was heaven for them. I was still doubtful though. “The first girl i was in relationship with. The first.” “How do you define a relationship ?”, I asked. My inability to get involve in even a single one; he knew this would be coming. “Relationship .. Hmm is like a sweet candy. It sweetens the life at first few turns; But as usual the problem with the sweeteners are that they are desirable only when you don’t have it. Once you own it you discard it or may be you start finding your own ways to start discarding it.” His reply was in situ. “You own it ?? what rubbish. How can you own a relationship, supposedly it has to be a mutual decision.right ?” This time he turned towards me. For the first time during the entire conversation he turned towards me. “Mutual, huh… Its only about few dinners, close body sessions, a little bit of appreciation session, cell phone session and importantly that unhook session that gives you the pleasure of being a man.”, He replied with the grin on his face. “So is it only about sex.?” I tried being straight forward. “No dude. Sex is an important part but its about the love which just saturates after a time period and the once seemed so desirable and loving a girl is just a liability you want to get rid of.” His reply had that ‘i don’t care’ smile.

In a relationship is just an another luring thing. I am done; Probably I will sleep. You can keep thinking over it. May be write a book or go ahead write a blog. Whatever it is. I am sleeping now. Go to hell. May be go to sleep” he said and walked away. “I should too. Hell is kind of full may be drifting into sleep can help”, I thought and went to bed because for me being “in the office” tomorrow morning was of more importance than being “in a relationship

BABA – a recent brick in the wall or just an another ??

. Sunday, June 12, 2011

Baba, is the latest news in the town. No wonder he was before too. A nation which is so obsessed with using their middle finger for every petty stuff they feel defeated at, this man made them use their index finger on the skin wrapped around their nasal cavity and breathe in and out. He made people start realise about the fact that there could possibly be a chance of solving power crisis in this nation by generating electrostatic impulse when you create friction while rubbing your nails against each other. And you thought you were growing hairs. He was the man who made the gourd taste a lot better to a better lot. In a nation where Sachin is God, SRK is a King of tinsel town, Aamir khan is perfectionist and Poonam Pandey is sexy. I would suggest Baba is magnetic. He has his own crude set of fan base and believe me they are so emotional about Baba
As I always say I am not an argumentative Indian. A land where accusation is a convention, arguments are myth, and  making sense is picayune I would rather exercise my liberty to exclude myself. If Gul Panag has a record of most number of tweets on twitter, Baba has the record for incredible number of #mentions. In last week across 3 days (from Saturday and Monday), there are 1400 mentions of Ramdev Baba and his agitation in Haridwar. Most of these mentions have come from Twitter, followed by Blogs and News. It has not heated Facebook and Discussion forums yet. Twitter creates more than 60% of all conversation, while Blog takes around 25%. So twitter guys if you are reading this you have a competition lined up here. And believe me this competition is going to kick your balls. Start you preparations.
If twitter is so busy Mark Zuckerberg made sure Baba is on Facebook too. Baba has taken the war on Facebook on his official Facebook Fan Page. He has 99 thousand plus followers and has received thousand of likes and comments in most of his posts. Baba has called people to join his movement and has thanked Supreme Court for issuing notice to the government.

Baba’s anti-corruption movement does not fancy me anymore. I have even started excoriating those notes which has anything to do with Baba, Indian national Congress or corruption either as a matter of fact.
Recently while having a web patrol late at night, I came across a very interesting article on Baba Ramdev's Demands .You can see for yourself here. It mentions his other nine demands.
I will call his first demand as ZERO. The concept is analogous to the zeroth law of thermodynamics which was discovered last and was of utmost importance, if you have read ever.
0: Demands of nationalizing funds that Indians have unlawfully stashed abroad and declare these acts as an act of treason.
  • Social Opinion:Nothing wrong with the demand ,seems very righteous and downright patriotic
  • Question: Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust has property worth Rs 1,000 crore in Hardwar, a Scottish isle for about A£ 2 million , major stakes in the Aastha TV channel and property and shops across India all this was achieved very quickly . Baba never questioned the funds purity ,i.e., whether its black or white money .His organisation just took it .Now after reaching at this peek of monetary achievement Baba suddenly felt the urge to curb black money. Why the delay ?
1: “We will totally boycott all foreign goods manufactured with ‘zero’ technology. In every sphere of our personal, public and national life we will give the topmost place to India and Indianness,”
  • Social opinion:Baba seems to be little late on Swadeshi movement some 50 years late. Everything is connected and you cannot wake up one morning and stop using foreign goods .
2: No more western medicines

  • Social opinion:Yoga is effective but it cannot replace medicines. Yoga is a lifestyle which keeps you healthy   ,its more of a preventive method. If he wants to increase his market he should get better marketing agency.

3: Why are public facilities so much better in countries like the U.K. or Canada than they are in India. "Bureaucrats, politicians must go public"
  • Social opinion:Valid point but population in these countries is low compared to India and even they opt for private facilities.
4: Death to corrupt, rapists, terrorists, adulterators and  “who cause death by spreading poisonous pollution that causes tuberculosis, cancer and other fatal diseases.”
  • Social opinion: A bit overboard till terrorist I would agree harsher punishment for rest would do but to hang the corrupt would leave literally no one after all we are ranked 87th on corrupt countries list
5: “In a country where 840 million people live on 20 rupees or less a day…what is the need for currency notes?” Ban 500 and 1000
  • Social opinion:you do not need to read economic times to know that we are advancing towards becoming an economy superpower and lower denominations like 25 paisa is going out of market .I agree we have a lot of people to feed but banning 500 and 1000 denomination note will only cause problems no solutions
6: Stop spending on pesticides and fertilizer and go organic
  • Social opinion:going organic is good but we cannot stop using pesticide and fertilizers .We need a high production rate to sustain our population .
7: Train Indian scientists in Hindi and regional languages
  • Social opinion:Hindi should be given more prominence no questions on that but we cannot deny the fact that English has become a global language and  translating books into hindi and regional language for scientists is tiresome and will bore little fruits .
8: Get rid of British-era laws
  • Social opinion:If laws are not serving the purpose they should be revised or removed but removing them just because they are pre-colonial makes no sense
9: "Homosexuality is an illness and yoga can cure it "
  • Social opinion:Yoga should be respected and not mocked by cracking such baseless fact-jokes .Hope Yoga cures his mental doubts.
Despite the tantrums going around; a Baba made some wind blowing. He caused some ruffles. The question is not about his popularity but what remains to be observed is if this wind is intense enough to take the government on edge or its just another brick in the wall. Yet to see if he is a kickass or another jackass running for feed and notice.

Silent Silence

. Friday, June 10, 2011

At times the silence is the most common thing you can see. Its the only music you can hear too. It’s the only thing to think about. The roads gets dizzy. The path is no longer tractable. Choices seems to be flooding the mind gateway. Confusions dismay and apprehension gets in. The ironical thing about silence that it gets along with itself things uncalled for in normal situations. It brings in noise, fuzzy and chaotic to understand. It brings in that emptiness that actually start draining your internal resources.

It was not for the first time he was practicing this silence. He grew silent a year ago. He stopped complaining. He had some things in mind, some though that he never wanted this world to know. His facebook page was active. At times, he tweeted too. He knew, to be dead on social platforms these days meant people would get to know something is happening. He never wanted, something should happen. The devoid feeling was getting intense for him. For the world he had a mask. A mask that always wore a smile. A smile that reminded people of good times. Times which he never wanted to get to real world. World where he was tired confronting, confrontation which he was not too sure of. Surety which anyways had became matter of choice for him. Choices which created incessant unsolved loop in his mind. Mind that he could not seem to have control of. Control which he had lost way back. Way back when he believed in waiting. The wait which he now wanted to obviate.Obvious which had turned to no more than an axiomatic truth. The Truth which had no answers. The answers which he had been expecting. The expectations which never made to his footsteps. Footsteps which now he wanted to trace back. Revert.

This perpetual delirium was killing him. Agitation, dejection, frustration under that cloaked smile. He wished his life back. Things had changed and he had too. The expectation had to end someday. The wait had to get over. Moving ain’t an easy thing but when its the only thing wisdom lies in doing it. He knew it. It’s only now he believes in it. And Belief is such a rare entity.

Irony of Social Network

. Monday, June 6, 2011

This is not an argumentative Essay, and I am not a argumentative Indian. Because most of us cant have arguments only for the matter of fact that arguments needs quintessential sense; sorry social sense; which in most of the obvious cases we lack at commonly and majorly as a community. I am not playing with words. Social Networks are growing. By the word growing I mean outgrowing. They are everywhere. But simultaneously it makes me ponderous (yea i can think at times :P) It makes me thinks of of the nonsensical thing that a Social network can make you think. It makes me think about the past, present or may be future; depends upon what part of future i as a contributor will survive.

People mind missing up their missed calls, they mind missing up their text, but missing on a notification on a debated thread on facebook; no they wont miss it. Tweeting about the latest gossip in the town; no they cant afford to miss it. Social Networks, Should they complement human existence or should human existence complement Social Networks ? Believe me I am in a state of jeopardy; of what kind and measure well that’s trivial to discuss.

The social networks has bestowed with some strange thought to be thought of. Have they made us inutile or were we same as this before, Its just that they projected our inutile property with glory and pseudo inertness. I doubt and my doubts are outgrowing every moment. I don't want to think or talk about the sad suck holes and dumb assholes they made us. I don't want to talk about the medical disorders they gave us. I don't want to talk about the “you can get laid” smile that these young guns have when they chat on these social platforms.

I rather want to ask some inert questions that might cease to exist if never opened my shithole mouth. I do have a twitter account. (No attempt to Promote my own twitter account :P, as if someone will ever follow me). My twitter timeline is crisp and hot; Oh yeah, it does features Gulpanag. Wait she is (turning 30) I suppose. How can anyone of us be so prompt on these social networks, that you tell the world your shit schedule and that too on a minutely basis. My question is what were the priorities when these to be updated social platforms never existed. Did these priorities ever existed or are they dissolved in thin air. Or do you want me to believe that you sit whole day in front of your dabba updating you minutely timelines. Do you want me to believe that you charge you cell phones a million time during the day. Means what do you do to earn a comforting lifestyle that you have. I see your tweets more often than I see anything.

The concept of digitizing the social life of a being is good till the word digitizing remains in its own compass. Or should I comprehend we do not understand the mean of digitizing of social life. Something is seriously wrong. Recently on one weekend I asked on of my friend for a movie and he replied he was “FBing”. I had heard this word more than often but eating, drinking, kissing, even sucking is ok, but “FBing”. Seriously am I a loner as far as this tangy feeling I have or do I have companions who share the same.

I do not intend to criticize one social network in particular; infact i do not intend to criticize even the shit bread i am eating now. How ironical, Social network was conceptualized to increase social ties, to replenish the whole concept of social relationship and what we have become are a outnumbered bunch of disconnected and lost faces. I am afraid is this what we ever wanted to be. Its this what the human race ever wanted to be. We need to understand, not the adversities or the side effects of getting too adhered to these platforms, but the exact meaning of the word “Social Network” The community doesn’t need dot lines, it needs line joining these dots.

My Experiences with Gingerbread (Droid 3.0)

. Wednesday, June 1, 2011

Everything that is not perfect or complete comes with Disclaimer. The long awaited Gingerbread release is out, along with a plethora of user and developer oriented features that will delight and amaze. For me, I’m just excited to have another excuse to use the word “plethora” in a sentence. I mean, really, how often does that happen?
I am an Android user. Yes I have been using it since a couple of months. Hell yeah, I was keen on updating my Froyo with Gingerbread. Unfortunately I was travelling, when HTC rolled out their update. And more importantly none of the airport i checked in had an open wi-fi connection. Finally I installed the htc-desire-gingerbreadUpdate.

Before I roll out the goodies pack a couple of disclaimers.

1. It’s not Android 3.0. Gingerbread is a minor release, which will be replaced with the big 3.0 Honeycomb release, if you’re looking for the mythical Tablet-optimized version of Android, this is not the droid you’re looking for.

2. Save Desire HD and Incredible S, other HTCs’ will take quite a time.

Google promised User features

    1. Updated Interface

Brace yourselves. The familiar grey bar of the notification menu is no more. Gingerbread features a black notification bar. Similar changes will appear across the operating system, in pop-up and contextual menus, for instance. Google says these changes are not only for visual purposes, they’ll help with battery life too. For instance, Super AMOLED panels like the one on the Nexus S use less power when displaying black. New color schemes and various UI changes and polish make Android more consistent and simpler to use.

    2. Support for Near-Field Communication Baked In

Android 2.3 will pack support for short-wave radio waves that, among other things, will let you use your smart phone as a mobile payment device. Think: swiping your Droid at a GAP to charge your credit card, or linking all your loyalty shopping cards to your Nexus S. But NFC is about more than mobile payments. Google says you’ll be able to touch your phone to posters, stickers, and advertisements to learn more about promotions, places, and other stuff without having to check into a location or look it up online.

    3. Gyroscope for 3D Motion Processing

Apple beat Google to market with this feature, an additional sensor that registers 360-degree movement for fuller, more well-rounded game play. However, Android throws in every sensor it can imagine. Gingerbread will offer software support for linear acceleration, gravity-based movements, and barometric changes (what?!).

    4. More Efficient Software Keyboard

Google has also redesigned Android’s software keyboard to include reshaped buttons with greater special separation between the digital keys. Google claims the changes will help make the buttons easier to see and target. If you’re already fast on the stock Android keyboard, get ready to be faster. Now every Android phone comes complete with multi-touch key-chording support for using the Shift key to enter capital letters just like a real keyboard on a laptop. And because speed isn’t just a matter of how fast you type, Google also renovated the look of the auto-complete tool. Whereas it was once a drab grey color with hard-to-see, faded black type, the new dictionary has a black background with yellow-orange letters. That’s definitely going to be easier to glance at while blasting out emails and texts message.

    5. One-Touch Copy-and-Paste Selection

Depending on the phone manufacturer and the app being used, copy-and-paste can be a help or a hassle. In Gingerbread, users can press-hold a word to select it quickly. That’s one step less than copy-and-paste in Froyo where press-and-hold launches a contextual menu with options to select all copy or select some copy.

    6. Better Power Management

The annoyance of installing a third-party app to help manage power-sucking Android applications is one of the first thing you learn in Android 101. Some manufacturers, Motorola, for instance, account for that problem by including a proprietary settings app that displays the power draw from active applications or device settings. Gingerbread handles the problem head-on by baking the functionality into Applications under settings. Even more useful, Google says the operating system takes a more active role in closing apps that drain too much juice in the background. For users, that translates into less time spent checking in on which active apps are killing battery life.

    7. Application Manager is Easier to Find

Speaking of less time, in order to make shutting down resource-hungry apps a whole lot easier, Gingerbread adds a Application Manager shortcut on the home screen. Otherwise you’d need to dig for it in the settings.

    8. Unified Download Manager

Android fans who side-load apps or download them via the browser will appreciate Gingerbread’s unified Download Manager. Now, instead of installing APK files from an Android device’s root menu, Android 2.3 will keep track of a download no matter how you add it, even if you email it to yourself. We suspect this will be a very handy feature for managing in-app downloads too.

    9. Internet Calling and Multiple Video Support

Android phones with front-facing cameras have been available since the summer, but users have had to use third-party apps like Qik or Fring to make video calls over IP. Now that Google offers multiple camera and VOIP/SIP call support from within the Android architecture, we hope the ability to make video calls over Google Talk or Google Voice becomes an option real soon.

    10. Audio Sound Processing

Gingerbread will also offer platform-level customization for audio output. What does that mean? Digital sound firms like Dolby Laboratories and SRS Labs already offer software-based sound packages for notebooks and netbooks, and some smart phones (like the HTC Surround). With access to the Android SDK for Gingerbread, those companies could offer customizations like a virtual surround sound experience for headphone listening on Android devices. And don’t even get us started on the potential for more immersive audio soundscapes in Android games. However, Android would first need to beef up its game selection.

My Experience with the User features.

Overall I can see the darkened skin. My battery responds better than previous. I have to charge my phone less frequent than previous days. A little of appreciation Android can expect out of me for this. The quick setting in the notification area saves my effort to alter some of the frequently used settings like switching on and off wi-fi and other. The Application drawer with its improved interface helped me to locate my frequently used apps with greater ease. And yes i love ease when I am on my android.

The copy and paste is something that i am proud of and apple users i can show you my smart smart phone too. Nevertheless You can chuckle. Keyboard feels good, though I didn’t feel much of a difference. The download manager is something that I was looking for quite a time. Because it really differentiates a Smartphone from other so called Smartphone. Now I can manage my downloaded applications with comfort and luxury.

With New Gingerbread I can feel some difference that HTC promised. The desire HD looks more desirable. However still Waiting for Honeycomb.

That Moment

.

A moment makes wonder. It makes you feel sleepy nevertheless it makes you feel elated  at times. It makes you feel high, it makes you feel low. Its only about that moment.

I was sleeping , rather trying to sleep or whatever the term may be translated into the English jargon; and that moment wakes me up and i start scribbling. Its all about moment.

Moments have been driving life, not for now but since ages. And its not my life I am speaking about, but seamless for you, me and probably for everyone one who is reading this.

Think of the moment when you felt lazy waking up in your hostel and you ended entire day sleeping off. Think of the moment when you had your first smoke and now its become an incorrigible hourly activity. Think of the moment when you felt this is it. It can’t be done and its still lying for you approval. Think of the moment when you thought “I am done”. Think of the moment when you thought its hard to wake and up and you realized you are still there. Think of the moment when you forced yourself to make it happen and it happened. Think of the moment when you felt she is the one. Think of the moment when you actually kissed her; though you have been knowing each other for ages. Moment builds life.

Moments drives us. My understanding suggests me, moments are choices. The choices for us to make. The choice is to be or not to be . We are guided by them  and probably that drives the next show. Supposedly choice is a subject of your subconscious trying to evade itself. In fact subconscious always tries to pop put. Its only the conscious which keeps it sublimed and silent. Choice give them the chance to show itself and Moment create choices.

Moments have their own classifications; they are special, at times those moments hurt us more than anything. They technically they last for a fractions of a second. But what we do in that fractions lives with us the entire life.
